The kissing under sprigs of mistletoe tradition dates back thousands of years when the Greeks used it to cure everything from menstrual cramps to spleen disorders, and the Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder promoted it to cure epilepsy.
The plant’s romantic reputation started with the Celtic Druids of the 1st century A.D. They viewed it as a symbol of vivacity because it could blossom even during the frozen winter. So they used it to restore fertility.
You will find the locally grown PATCHEN variety in our wreaths, kissing balls, and sprigs tied with ribbons for kissing.[/su_column]

In Scandinavia Holly is known as the “Christ Thorn”, the prickly leaves representing the crown of thorns that Jesus wore, and the berries being drops of blood shed as he was crucified.
There are many varieties, the most popular being the English ones. The so-called California Holly is actually Toyon, which grows at PATCHEN along with several of the English varieties. You will find it highlighting our wreaths and as individual sprigs and branches for Holiday decorating.[/su_column]
